Iridized glass has been sprayed with a metallic coating made of tin. This coating can be silver, gold, or have a rainbow transition from gold and silver, to purple, blue and green.  The effect on glass is much like oil on water. These coatings are available in patterned and textured glasses.

Dichroic glass was developed from the space industry and is produced by a process called thin film physics. Thin layers of metallic oxides, such as titanium, silicon, gold, silver and magnesium are vaporized by an electron beam and deposited upon the surface of the glass in a vacuum furnace.
Each piece of dichroic glass has three colours associated with it:
a reflected colour, a transmitted colour and a third reflective colour that can be viewed at a 45-degree angle on the glass. This causes the glass to change colour as the light hits it from different angles. These coatings are available in patterned and textured glasses.
